• I added new templates to the themes folder and now I can’t see my blog. I tried to update one of the themes on my blog and then my blog’s theme reverted back to the default template. Then when I continued to try to upload the files to a new template that’s when I couldn’t see my blog at all. I can’t even login to the admin section. Does anyone know of a file that I will need to upload that will at least let me see my blog again? Or what files will I need to keep so that if I have to reinstall the entire WordPress directory, I will not lose my posts and comments?

  • First of all, your posts, comments, pages, categories, tags, and users, are kept in your database. So before doing anything, read Backing_Up_Your_Database, and then backup your database!!!

Besides your database, there are the WordPress files and folders and that’s likely where the problem is.

If you rename your .htaccess file and clear your browser cache does that resolve?

If not, I’m guessing when you were uploading files you uploaded something into the wrong folder. You might try reuploading all the WordPress files again to see if that help.

Thanks MichaelH. I backed up my database. The problem was instead of deleting the WordPress old files, I overwrote them. I had to delete the old files and upload the new ones and then tell the wp-config.php file my database name. Now everything is back to normal.
