Support » Fixing WordPress » post won’t show without manual refresh – even a day later

  • My posts don’t show when site is accessed from another computer unless i manually refresh – even a day later. I just moved to wordpress from blogger (never had this issue with blogger) I have tried forcing no cache through both the meta tags in header.php and in my .htaccess file – no luck. it does this with more than one theme – including the default. Am i missing something?

  • Yes you are. A URL where we can look at your site.

    I see everything fine. No problems.

    Same here.
    Seems to be working fine for me in Firefox 3, IE7, Safari 3.2.1 and Opera 9.63. No refresh problems noted.

    but if i make a post now when will it show without you hitting refresh? the majority of the viewers doen’t understand cache and refresh. I want it to force reload without them doing anything. (just added new post titled “Forced refresh”

    ex: i used firefox when adding post. load in opera – it is fine. load in safari – new post does not show, open in IE, new post does not show.

    but if i make a post now when will it show without you hitting refresh?

    No, not if I have your site “loaded” when you publish the new post.
    Yes, if I visit your site after you make the post.

    Unless we are missing something here, and you need to explain it better, this is normal browser behavior.

    Browsers were closded and quit- and site revisited. i can visit the site today (day later) and I still don’t see the post unless i manually refresh. This isn’t normal. It has to be something simple.

    I see the post in my feed reader, so i know the rss feed propogate correctly.

    That’s just browser caching. I’m not sure why you’d think that the majority of viewers don’t understand refreshing a page. I’d think that the first thing that a lot of people learn about the web is how to reload a page.

    If the pages are not caching on your local computer, then are you connecting though some kind of proxy server that may be caching the pages? I know I’ve run into this problem at times with computers in schools. Does the same thing happen with other pages you visit?

    Try the old

    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="-1">

    In your index theme header.

    no, it i really did know about this until 3 of my site viewers contacted me about my posts not showing up. before with blogger, they would see new posts each time they visited without manual refresh. I hosted the blogger blog on my own hosting (self hosted) same as i am doing with wp.

    I added meta tags to the index file already. no luck. thanks for all the replies though.

    IE 7 does have a setting under tools, internet options, content, feeds where if you are speaking about the browser checking for new feeds, a time interval can be set but this will not over ride yours The default is daily so this might be the cause of the problem if it is for reading auto feeds.

    If they are not using feeds and going to the your website, IE7 also has under tools, internet options, browsing history, settings where you “could” check a choice of never for checking for newer versions of stored pages. I don’t know why anyone would check that – the default is “automatic.”

    Same exact problems here. And no, this isn’t normal. Page does not refresh without a full manual refresh, and even my RSS feeds won’t refresh in viewers without unsubscribing then resubscribing (even though the RSS direct feed is updating right away). Anyone have any luck?

    @mrmist… dude that code sucked and brought my site down… well for a few minutes anyways. Maybe I put it in the wrong place but it basically made the page blank to enclude the wordpress login page… luckely I had access to my ftp and went in and changed the file back.

    I’m also having issues with the “manual refresh”. I dont want people to come to my site and have to refresh and who ever said that people do this normally is total BS. I never refresh any webpage I visit and expect it to be updated when I pull it up.

    Anyone with a brain got an answer to this?
