I'm using 2.6.5 and when I try to write a new page the computer hangs up. I think it is loading a lot of meta data but I'm not sure.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem.
I tired disabling the visual editor but that wasn't the problem. When the page partially loads there is a lot of information over in the custom field area.

If you're using dial up, then I think its a computer problem and not wordpress.
What happens from another computer?
Did you try to disable all plugins?

I don't use dialup.
No, I didn't disable the plugins. It's loading up all kinds of custom fields which is the problem. How do I make the custom fields quit loading?
thanks.
Okay let me phrase this differently.
Try disabling all plugins.
Try another computer if disabling plugins doesn't resolve.

I don't have another computer. But I'll try disabling the plugins.
Is there any way to keep those custom fields from loading otherwise? This is the only issue I'm having. None of the other pages are having trouble loading.
If it is a new page and it's trying to load a lot of custom field info then my guess is you have a plugin that sets default values for custom fields.

I've disabled all but akismet and it doesn't seem to help.
I'm at a loss there. What happens if you delete those. Also do you have a database backup from before that started happening?
That data would seem to be in wp_postmeta table to might also try rebuilding/reparing that table.

Ok, thanks. I'm not sure what a wp_postmetatable is, but I'll do some research.
phpMyAdmin is usually a way to access your MySql database that houses the wp_postmeta table.

It's in my meta key but I don't know how to remove it.
You can delete each row in phpMyAdmin but please backup your database.
WordPress Backups or a database backup plugin.

Ok, thanks. It sounds ominous if I need a backup. :-)
