    Hello, I'm using the GAMEZINE theme but it has footer links so I wanted to replace them. The footer looks like this tho

    <?php /* WARNING: This file is protected by copyright law. To reverse engineer or decode this file is strictly prohibited. */
    $o="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";eval(base64_decode("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"));return;?>

    So I replaced it with

    <div class="clear"></div>
    		</div>
    		<div class="footer">

    <p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.example.com">©2008 Example.com. All rights reserved</a></p>

    		</div>
    	</div>

    </body>

    </html>

    But then the Slider & Featured Post didn't work. I believe there's a code encrypted within the code, is there a way to fix this?

    Any theme that uses encrypted code to prevent one from adjusting to a users preference should get deep sixed. Other than keeping the designers information intact - there is NO reason you should not be allowed to insert your own links or whatever info you want displayed there. Can you delete footer.php and write a new one?

    That's what I think! I wish I could just make an entire new Footer but the problem is that it stops the special things from working like the glider and the slider or the tab bar.

    If that is so I'd find myself a new theme and drop an email to the author of that monstrosity. The code you tried to replace the existing one with would appear to be totally wrong. You start with 2 div classes, close both plus an additional closing tag and have nothing IN the divs. Then you have a p class and try to close that with ... 2 more /divs. Then you end it with a closing body tag when you don't have an opening body tag and the same with an html closing tag. None of that should be in your footer.

    Try posting the footer.php file here using the code button so we can see what's there and maybe suggest an alternative.

    This is exactly what the original footer.php looks like

    That's it? Nothing more? Ridiculous. Dump it, or construct your own footer.php from scratch. Can you modify this to suit you?

    <!-- begin footer -->

    <div style="clear:both;"></div>
    <div style="clear:both;"></div>
    </div>
    <div id="footer">
    Copyright &copy;
    </div>

    <?php do_action('wp_footer'); ?>

    </body>
    </html>

    No no, when I change the footer nothing works. The special features that are added to it like the glider, featured post, the tab bar etc..

    @Joe - I agree with Saurus. Dump it. You will regret using a theme that you cannot modify. Also, who knows what other gotcha's are in the code?

    Well Saurus's footer worked but now there's a big gap between the main content and the side bar.

    Never mind Saurus footer had nothing to do with the gap it was something in the header which is now fixed. I'd like to say thanks to everyone especially Saurus, and this topic is resolved :)

    Hi Joe,

    Got your email but I see this issue is already resolved. For future reference and the benefit of anyone reading this thread please DO NOT upload this type of code to your website especially not knowing what it is or what it does.

    In this particular case it is simply a technique to protect the spammy links in the footer but it could easily be used for something far more sinister. If anyone wanted to blow a hole the size of an aircraft carrier through your defences this is certainly one way to do it.

    eval(base64_decode(...)

    See that line of code above. That command decodes everything with the () while eval evaluates or executes the newly decoded goodies. And therein lies the danger. If you want to learn how to decode this stuff just visit any good PHP forum. Decoding this kind of stuff can be tedious and time consuming. I replaced the eval with print just to view the source and saw a bunch more eval calls. I've seen instances where code was encrypted a dozen times or more. (the newly encrypted code was then encrypted again and so forth) Even running this crap on your computer is dangerous.

    The bottom line is STAY AWAY from this kind of stuff. There are tons of great free themes from reputable authors out there including magazine-style themes.

    I agree with Saurus when he called it a monstrosity.
