    Hello,

There are lots of good things with the new wordpress 2.7, however, in my case, the new dashboard and admin panel consumes a LOT more time, with lots of additional required clicks and time wasted.

I do NOT say it is bad, just that it doesn’t fit MY needs, unlike the previous dashboard, my purpose is not to troll 😉

I’d like to ask, do you know if there’s a way to keep the admin-side of WP 2.6, with the new 2.7 ?

    Thanks if you can hep,
    Sabinou

It’s a question of personal taste, and personal needs. In my case, for a person always lacking time like me, this admin is wasting precious time.

Ooooooooook, the “view this post” link, after you edit a post, doesn’t exist anymore with 2.7. And, when I hit preview, I the admin, I am told I don’t have persmission for that.

I still stick to the opinion that it’s just me who isn’t very compatible with WP2.7, but boy, it does start to be annoying ¬_¬

I had this problem early on. The View this Post link DOES exist, you are just missing some of the javascript files on your site. WordPress is very javascript dependent now.

Reupload all of WordPress 2.7, and make sure you get everything. Also check the file permissions, make sure everything is accessible and none of the javascript is blocked from loading into your browser.

Also, the answer to your question is no, you can’t have 2.7 with a 2.6 interface.

Thanks for your reply, Otto !

Regarding the lack of a “view this post” link, I am puzzled : I once again reinstalled afresh, wp-admn and wp-includes were deleted before a reupload of fresh files.
The file permissions were not changed either.

Maybe I missed that, could you be very kind and describe WHERE is located the “view this post” hyperlink for you, in 2.7 ?

I can’t find any menu items with exception of the Profile – Personal Options and Tools

The top of the WP is crunched up and I can do anything with my theme or anything else besides the two things i mentioned above.

    Please help.

That link is located here: http://www.markheadrick.com/images/screenshots/wp27_write.gif

I circled it in red. When creating a new post and publishing it, it will show View this post there instead of “go back”. “Go back” will be the page you were on when you clicked on the link to edit the post. So, if you clicked on Edit this entry on the post’s page, then that will be where go back will go. If you were in the admin area looking at all your posts and clicked to edit it there, then go back will send you back to the posts listing.

Well, it appears that the final 2.7 changed it since I last checked.

The Preview link used to rename itself, but now it does not. However, it performs the exact same function. If you mouseover it, you’ll see that it’s a link to the live post.

Thank you for your replies, Otto and MarkRH ! 🙂

Thanks to your explanations, I saw that, Indeed, there was some sort of bug with my first installations of WP 2.7, that were performed by simply uploading the 2.7 files with overwriting rules. The “preview” link was adding lots of additional stuff in the hyperlink of the blog notes, while the “back” link always pointed to the post editing window.

Once I deleted the wp-admin and wp-includes folders, reuploading them afresh, it worked at last. Now, the “preview” link indeed points to the actual blog note, I’m reassured 🙂

    Case resolved !

I was still a bit puzzled in the beginning, but this time it’s simply a problem of user-friendlyness, I was taken unaware.
Unlike WP 2.6 that offered “View” and “Edit” links after you edited a blog note, on top of the editor page, WP 2.7 only offers a “Back” link, and that “Back” link will either point to the blog note (if you clicked an “Edit this post” link that your theme added to the blog notes when you’re logged as admin) or point you to an internal wp-admin page (if you were in the wp-admin when you clicked an “Edit” link).
That is a bit confusing in the beginning, until you get the hang of it 🙂
