best hacks for design blog?

I have decided to go with wordpress for my design website, i design flyers n stuff for companies, due to the length of time it takes to maintain a website manually i decided to go with wordpress which will allow me to add updated designs quickly.

Could anyone recommend hacks and plugins that maybe suitable for me?

I want an easy way of uploading my latest work and displaying it on a ‘design’ page which shows all my designs in thumbnails, clickable to make large… and also on my main page if need be?

I’ve not got much experience with blogs but it looks to me if it relies on categories where i can post comments?… am i able to add basic pages for example, price lists, and FAQ’s..?

any guidance is greatly appreciated.
