Is it okay to downgrade from 2.7 Beta3 to 2.6.5? (7 posts)

    Hello.

I got kind of over eager when first installing WP, so I ended up with the 2.7 Beta3 version on my server, instead of the stable release. Would I encounter a problem if I changed my version to 2.6.5? Is the process the same as upgrading from a lower to a higher version?

    Thanks

Why are you going to downgrade? Something broken?

Thanks for the quick reply MichaelH

I like 2.7 Beta 3, and I believe I'll eventually end up with it. At this point, however, 2.7b3 does not yet have the cool capabilities of my localhost test wp, which uses 2.6.3 and is a joy to use. For example:

    1. I can't yet upload media easily to my online 2.7b3 blog. No MCE, no WYSIWYG of any kind. So I have to handcode my img and href tags. That's time-consuming.

    2. Many plugins that work great on my offline 2.6.3 warn me that they may not yet be compatible with my online 2.7b3 blog. So that leaves me hanging in mid-air and asking myself, when will these things get updated?

    3. Like others have said on the forums, the 2.7b3 backend seems unusually slow.

I acknowledge these issues I raise are part and parcel of my having tried a beta instead of a stable. I accept that.

So I learned my lesson. I'm going to assume it'll take a while for 2.7 to exit beta, and I'd rather not wait. I'm willing to do the extra work (and consider it part of my learning curve) to revert for now, and eventually upgrade again when 2.7 becomes stable.

    Thanks again and cheers...

I did a downgrade for my blog from wordpress 2.7 beta 3 to wordpress 2.6.5. I was forced to cause I couldn't get to my dashboard anymore in wordpress 2.7.

Just like a normal upgrade I copied the wordpress 2.6.5 files and replaced the wordpress 2.7 files with them. After that I got a messages to update my database. But then I was done without any error.

So if you still want to do a downgrade, you could give it a try. At your own risk. Maybe wordpress 2.7 release candidate 1 also bring the solution for your current problems.

Thank you hvanoers. Soon after I decided to downgrade, WP announced the release of 2.7 RC-1, so I gave it a try. Seems to work well, so I might as well stick to it. No WYSIWYG, though. Kinda annoying. Cheers!

On your dashboard click on your name in the top right corner then make sure the box labeled disable visual editor isn't checked. Also there might some incompatibilities with the new version and some plugins that modify the visual editor.

Just upgraded to 2.7 Coltrane and no WYSIWYG for me either, annoying. Kind of a huge issue. And I did "make sure the box labeled disable visual editor isn't checked".
