    Hello all,

First post to wordpress, must say I love WP , although I have just realised I have a slight problem and have searched the forum but cannot find any solutions? Not sure what I have done wrong.

    Here goes:

WP is installed in a sub directory EG wordpress
in the Root directory I have html pages and another sub-directory which is password protected . eg http://www.abc.com/passwordprotected/

Problem - Now WP is installed I can no longer access the pass protected folder from internet expolorer - keeps reverting to the wp 404 page.

Additionllay the WP 404 page is overwriting my custom HTML 404 page in the root directy. ie in internet explorer I no longer get my html 404 page.

Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards
    Gigab

In regards to your problem of the WP 404 showing up instead of accessing your password protected folder:

I don't know if you ever solved this problem but your post came up first when I searched for answers to the same problem so I will post what I found here.

This post has a good discussion of the problem. (The solution I used is at the bottom by 'junckster'.)

I don't know if this solution could somehow be extended to help with your other problem where the WP 404 is overriding your custom 404 page.

I do know that the WP 404 is usually a file called 404.php in your active theme's directory. You might try modifying this file to get what you want.
