I just did a clean install of 1.2.2 today. I have nothing to backup. While reading about Wordpress, there seems to already be more discussion and support of 1.5 than 1.2.2. -- at least from those on the forums. Even the new themes seem to be all made for 1.5. Rather than having to update in the near future, it seems to make sense to me to update now. Am I wrong to think this? People seem to find it relatively stable. If I want to upgrade to 1.5, is the update as simple as deleting one and installing the other -- at least in my situation with no data to backup?
thanks.
Delete all of your files, except wp-config.php, upload the new files, then with your browser, navigate to .../wp-admin/upgrade.php and run that script.
I've been asking myself the same thing in the past few days.
We've just started our blog and still working on it, fixing the layout but also organizing content, installing plugins etc...
I have no idea of 1.5 release schedule but besides that it looks like a lot of people is switchin to the beta version.
Some plugins too are already build for the 1.5.
Any advice helping me make the decision is quite welcome!
The majority of blogs are currently running on version 1.2.2 or earlier. There has been a lot of talk on the forum about 1.5, but that is not indicative about the number of installs.
MMMM, thx nuclearmoose, maybe all this reading about the 1.5 is making me think at the question from a wrong point of view.
As with any software, unless there is a real need, is better stick with a stable version.
Maybe i'm just lazy and i'm worrying about having to change too much stuff in a future upgrade! :)
I guess i better stick to 1.2.2, it works nicely and i'm very happy with it.
cheers
Thanks, I understand, too. Maybe because 1.5 is new it gets so much more talk here in the forums lately. But it should be known that is is a little confusing to someone who's signing up now. Although 1.2.2 is the latest, you certainly don't want to be left behind when everyone is touting how much better the new version is in the forums and on the web.
To unnecessarily chime in, there's been "a lot of talk on the forum about 1.5", and "more discussion and support of 1.5 than 1.2.2 [though I'm not sure if that's true]" not exactly because it's "new", but because it needs more work done on it and with it as it's still a work in progress.
Some might say it isn't even "new" but rather "up and coming" since it isn't even done yet ;)
I don't mean to harp, I just like to make clear what you all already know: that 1.5 is beta :)
Also, keep in mind that we have mostly concrete and solid answers for any and all v1.2.x problems. We can only guess and offer suggestions for most v1.5 problems.
