After I did the install and go to the install address on my site, I get the error message:

Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress.

I am on a Godaddy server and when I go into the admin settings it says it is using the mysql PHP extension

Change to a Linux hosting plan--it is that simple. It takes a bit of time for the account to switch over once you make the change in plans.

    I have the same problem.

When I try to access "http://mywebsitename.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php", the error message says:

"Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress."

I am on a Godaddy server and have no plan to change the hosting plan as I have worked on this one for quite sometime.

What does the error message mean and how do I overcome the problem?

    Thank you.

on a windows server at godaddy you will not get it to work - it's that simple. It's their problem.

unless you just have to use frontpage or have .asp extensions I see no reason not to switch to a linux server. They are way faster and more reliable for all software.

Isn't it annoying when people just give there opinion rather than the answer the damn question. To use PHP on a Windows Server, you will need to upgrade to IIS 7. You CAN do this with GoDaddy, under your hosting mananger screen.
