So, I know about menu highlighting and its short sighted SEO issues. But how about sub menu highlighting. I dare anyone to do a search and find a clear concise answer. There's no resolved quesitons?
So, is this the WP weakness? How can I create a
<body class="about" id="ourcats">
situation with current nav and sub nav highlighting?

Look, this needs to be figured out. I cannot surmise why nobody here knows the answer. There's some great minds on this board!
I don't know about the body class.
But the two level menu highlighting has been figured out quite a while:
