    Hi All.
Last week I tried to install WP in my host server. I fails. And now my site is freezed. It shows the infamous 500 internal server error. I contacted the server support team and I asked them if I could install WP in the server. They said me yes, but: "... just remember that PHP safe-mode is on, therefore you will have to modify any scripts you are trying to use so that they will work with safe-mode on".

How can I do that -to modify the scripts?

I asked about the 500 internal server error, and they send me a message: "The maximum number of internal redirects has been reached. Assuming configuration error. Use
'RewriteOptions MaxRedirects' to increase the limit if neccessary".

What that means? It's related to the .htaccess files? How can I access to the .htacces? I found this on the net http://www.webservertalk.com/archive54-2004-6-269468.html.

    ?????????

I don't understand it. I'm not a programer or a geek or something like that. I'm just a filmmaker.

You guys, can help me? I'm desperate.

    How I can fix this?

    THANKS A LOT!!!!!

The RewriteOptions MaxRedirects error is related to .htaccess. You can reach this file through ftp. Here's a guide on using ftp aimed at WordPress users:

    5 minutes install?

    Carlanga1,
I have installed WordPress more times than I can remember. Every time was less than five minutes (knock on wood). In my experience, most install issues are from human error or server-side problems. That said, I certainly understand your frustration.

Your patience is appreciated while waiting for a volunteer to answer your question.

WP works in Safe Mode without any ill-effects.
Did your host mention this ?
    Who is your host ?

My host is http://www.spymac.com. I tried to install WP and everything went wrong. They said me: "We are not sure what the implications safe_mode will have on the program, but it may interfere with some instances.  Usually programs will have a "safe_mode" version.  Check with the developer and see what they suggest".
    AND:
"Yes, you should be able to do all of this [run WP in the host server], but just remember that PHP safe-mode is on, therefore you will have to modify any scripts you are trying to use so that they will work with safe-mode on".
    My site si http://www.blogacine.com

Thanks very much for your help

As Podz already stated, WordPress works in Safe Mode without having to be modified.

carlanga1 - it's been a while since I looked at spymac, so assuming your space does meet the http://wordpress.org/about/requirements/
if you want me to try and install it for you, I'll give it a whirl ?

The error ? I don't know, but I've installed a fair few blogs now so I'll be able to say more about what it is not - and thats just as useful at times.
Info I'll need: login details to create an sql db and ftp details to upload the files.

    I'll try :)

    Try removing the .htaccess file.

An internal server error (500) is and error which occurs internally, in the server. As such, the exact error is entered into your server error log. Without knowing what that error is, no one can effectively help you, and you'll be shooting in the dark.

Does removing the .htaccess solve the problem? Is it really an essential file? I think my server has it's default .htaccess...
