Since I have installed WP and am committed to using it long term, I would like to use the user table to provision credentials for both WP and the rest of my site. Has anybody done this? I am particularly interested in knowing how to make a call to the database to validate the password, which is encrypted. Mine is a php site that I am building in Dreamweaver.

Wonder if using WordPress to manage your site completely wouldn't be a reasonable approach...but you might look at some of these plugins and threads:
