Today I notice there is release 2.6.3 out and I am on 2.6.2.
And it was long ago when I had to upgrade to 2.6.2.
So many releases in short periods, its getting very annoying. You can hardly start to do the upgrade, customize things again that get changed through the release - i.e. plugins and sometimes even themes.
Why can Wordpress be released in a more methodical mannner, say 3 month phases. Honestly its getting to me now and even thinking of moving to something else.

It's not about security issues. I have the same problem. I spend more time updating crap in the back end then I do on site. Almost every time I go there a plugin or wordpress is out of date and we need to "Upgrade".
If there are that many vulnerabilities were constant updating is required, then they should get coders in there that can see them before hand.
Don't get me wrong, Wordpress is a great product but they have forced me to start looking for a more stable blog.
Hmm considering I've just released an update for my plugin maybe I shouldn't comment further.

there are just 2 tiny files, and one of them is version file. i don't know what's the big deal about updating, since it's not so much trouble after all. but with announced automatic updating since 2.7
i think we can all be still.

But I had to release a few versions today for it - bug fixing (and me messing up a release).
With anything that has a myriad of options it becomes very difficult to fully test and bugs are sometimes only spotted when the script is out in the wild. But when notified of one I try and fix it and get the patched version available as quickly as possible.

Were you hiding somewhere in my office this week when the head of IT went on his MS rant? 'Cause that's an almost verbatim rendition of the... "I want all 385 Windows machines on the network replaced by something with no bugs, no security issues, no updates, no downtime, no coding errors, no vulnerabilities. Something that never needs improvement, development, human interaction, or upgrading, and get it done by tuesday"... speech, that I enjoy so much every now and again.
I guess it's all about priorities and expectation. I personally blame it all on that damn "internet" thing. I can't believe that thing is still around.

Thank you for your kind words, Clayton. Usually people say I sound like a horses back side :-D :-D :-D
But again, I just decided to update to Wordpress 2.6.3 and a couple of plugins were out of date this morning. Less than 12 hours later (11 hours 3 minutes), I have two more plugins that need updating! <sigh>.
On Sept 3 I had a home invasion, well an attempted one. I fired off my compound bow at the back door, just missing the guy. I grabbed my phone to call 911 and it didn't work! I used my cell, called 911 then Cox (My phone Company). In a bright cheery voice a tech said, "Where busy upgrading our lines to improve your service". They made me feel like Schroedinger's Cat.
The only thing I can't upgrade is my dog who hides under the bed (A German Shepard) and my fiancee who won't give me the codes to watch the Cables porn channels.
So yeah, I am ranting about any upgrade :-D

Well, it appears that my reply here regarding the fact that security fixes and functionality changes should be kept separate was purged. There is no sense in pushing everyone to upgrade through the threat of security issues.
