how to correct calendar?

    Hi, i’ve recently installed WP and added first post.
    I changed my language to italian because the blog is in italian.
    everything’s is working fine except for my calendar.
    The letters indicating the days of the week are wrong.
    How can I fix this?

    The file you need to alter is wp-includes/locale.php
    It’s very straightforward.

    I altered it. Still not properly working.
    What to do?
    My it_IT.mo language file should have translation for calendar in it?
    I think the problem is there.
    How can I open and edit the file .mo?
