• hello.

    i am very brand new to wordpress and so far, i am loving it. i host my blog on my own site, found here: http://www.fracturedminds.net/musings but i am having some tweaking issues.

    1. at the bottom where it says, “previous posts”, how do i keep it to scroll only the last three? i’m afraid if it keeps going it will make the page look strange.

    2. the navigation bar. i tried to format it, but i cannot get equal and complete spacing like on my site proper (just click any of the buttons to see). i tried five different adjustments, and nothing is working.

    3. i believe i set up the post via email option, but when i send an email to post, it shows up on my admin page to approve and does not go straight to the blog.

    i suppose i’ll leave it there for now. not sure if i will get a response, but i appreciate any and all assistance. thank you in advance.

  • 1. If you are using get_posts and The Loop, get_posts(‘numberposts=3’) will keep the number of the items to three.

    2. Some pages use unordered list(<ul>) for navigation and others don’t. You can copy the best looking one to other templates.

    3. Hope this page of the Codex helps.

    i’ve been out of time and it took me forever to find this post.

    Thanks for your help. I’ll see if I can find a “fixer” in the codex, my nav bar does use “ul”.

    another question/issue i have. a lot of the cool sounding plugins and widgets seem to need a code number or id number from wordpress itself. i host my own page, does that mean i cannot use them? or do i have a number i don’t know about?

    further, on my sidebar, what does the following stand for and do i want to remove them or keep them?

    Meta

    * Log out
    * RSS
    * Comments RSS
    * Valid XHTML
    * XFN

    Thanks in advance for any help and my apologies for these questions if they are noobish.

    rivenagares,

    Are you referring to category numbers and post ids ? if yes, then in the category page of your admin, if you hover your mouse over the category link, you will see it’s id. You then use this id in the themes like the revolution magazine theme etc.

    The Meta links you see are in your links section in admin. The RSS gives a feed of all your posts to your readers, and the comments RSS does same for comments. These links are setup in your links section of admin dashboard. You can selectively delete the ones you don’t want.

    🙂 Thanks doc!

    i figured out the header. i just got rid of the “ul” and reformatted the page the way i do my main page…..nav bar is fixed. its always a simple solution isn’t it?

    as for the number, no. when i finally did find a plugin that i liked, i think it was a spam assassin typed plugin, it asked for my account number. i assumed when you use wordpress from their server, you get a number…

    ..i host my own.
