Wordpress and duplicate content issue (6 posts)

    Hi,

I am facing really strange problem that is becoming really bad each passing day. Few days ago while analysing in Web Master tools I noticed that google has reported pages with duplicate content.

I have wordpress 2.5.1 with permalinks enabled.

    http://siebelunleashed.com/truncation-or-null-fetch-error-occurred/
    http://siebelunleashed.com/truncation-or-null-fetch-error-occurred/?tip=1&PHPSESSID=90cd7d3460967d7706fcc6e10ed68b18

There are 2 urls that are for same post. After going through various articles on web I came to know that I need to modify some settings in PHP.ini file that will make PHPSESSID not to be appended in URL. But now google is reporting url's without PHPSESSID but ending with ?tip=1 or ?tip=2 for example

    http://siebelunleashed.com/siebel-analytics-an-overview/?tip=2
I don't know how this tip is being added and how can I remove it. Can you please help me out.

By the way, I have no idea what that might really mean, short of possibly needing to modify PHPSESSID's. Maybe 301 redirects, using mod_rewrite if available? ...I'm afraid most of that is over my head, though. On the up-side, I thought your site was exceptionally clean and well laid out. It looks good even at 1680 res, and the color contrasts in brown are surprisingly easy on the eyes.

    Best wishes.

The http://siebelunleashed.com/updated-links/ link is the part of resolution (according to documents that I read on web)

it contains all the links that have been reported duplicate. I have added a plugin that will redirect these pages to correct link... so In theory google bot will come and follow this links and know that these links have permanently redirected and update its index...

but i am not sure if it is working or not.. and what's more is that then number of links ending "?tip=" have increased it seems the setting in PHP.ini have stopped adding session id's but still for some reason it is adding ?"tip=" at the end.

I would really like to know what is causing this....

Don't publish the duplicate URLs, it will just add authority to them (since your own site links to them) and it will make Google keep trying them.

But I have added a plugin which redirects them to correct URL...

if I visit those pages in browser I am redirected to correct URL and hopefully googlebot too will be redirected???

I will soon remove these links..once googlebot has visited this page..
