IP address to domain name

We installed and built an entire site before the domain name propagated,so that the URL always displays the IP address, rather than the domain name. (This occurs even when you access site via domain name…it switches automatically to IP address

We need to change this, but I haven’t been able to find any documentation or posts that resolve this issue.
