I have recemtly taken over updating a Triathlon club web site which is hosted on a PHP site with a message board.
We are looking at updating the web site using Dreamweaver. However we have been hearing a lot about blogs and wondered if we should be looking at perhaps creating a site based around WP2 with the blog replacing our current message board and pages about committee , events etc
The question is, can WP replace a traditional HTML site so we have a blog and the web site together or would we be better to set up a blog as a seperate thing from our HTML site ? Not sure what the limitations
are with WP over a typical HTML site(CSS...no flash).
Would appreciate comments from anyone else who may have had to do this for a club site.

You can use WordPress with the plugin WP Forum. Since WP handles static pages very elegantly with its own Pages, you should be able to craft the entire site, right down to the forum, using just WP and a handful of plugins. Go for it.
Some years ago, I was the web master for the Z Club of Houston. And it was running WP very nicely. There were separate Pages for static content and most of the site contents were managed using categories and custom category pages (President's Message, Mechanic's Toolbox, etc.).
Hi Joni
Just the answer I was looking for.
The thing I noticed was that our members were using the message board
far more than visiting the web site... the conclusion was that we needed a blog based system with access to the static pages as required.
Thanks for the input.
I had a look at the Z club you mentioned.

Is this a Wordpress powered blog ?

Not anymore. It was ripped apart when I stepped down as web master in late 2004. You know how it goes with clubs, every time the webmaster changes hands, the site is ripped up and started over. It was straight HTML when I got it, then I converted it to WordPress, then the new (and current) web master converted it to heaven knows what.
