I have my WP site moved over my former HTML site.

I was wondering how destructive is changing a theme? Does it reset the site or do you only have to make minor corrections. And if you change back to what you had, is everything restore? Or is there a way to backup your site so that it is easy to 'undo' as we so often want to do when dealing with computers?
For a network admin you are pretty ignorant in net things...
Your content is stored in the database (DB): posts, Pages, comments, settings, everything.
WP is the "engine" behind the scenes to make your site working.
The themes are the "clothing" for your data.
Ever heard about the separation of presentation and content?
Unless you made special customization to how your theme is displaying your content, changing themes should not be "destructive" ever. Provided you are able to do it according the instructions and not screwing up your blog...
Changing a theme is not destructive of your content. You can change the theme, and then change it back to what it was -- it will look the same as it did.
Don't listen to anyone trying to insult you on here. It's just ridiculous, rude and unprofessional. Believe me most of the WP community is actually accepting of new users, in spite of some of the attack dogs who try to screw up this forum community.

Childish attacks are amusing. I am used to it every since I created my Pbase photography site - http://www.pbase.com/lautermilch
Thanks for the information, Dgold.
It's entirely possible that a weird plugin could be doing odd modifications to the database contents that would require a specific theme to work correctly. Highly unlikely, however.
Under normal circumstances, switching themes is completely safe.
