• Hi,

All my sidebar content disappears when I try to add a new widget below other pre-existing widgets in the sidebar. I am using the fresh editorial theme. Can anyone help?

Widgets generally pre-empt the existing sidebar and replace it, for most themes. So if you want to use widgets, but keep the existing sidebar, then you have to recreate the sidebar using them first, then add what you want to them.

    Thanks Otto! Problem solved.

I’m sorry, but I still don’t understand. I’m using the Elegance theme at http://crashingthrubarriers.com. I’m not at all comfortable with recreating my sidebar, as it sounds like a lot of work that I am not familiar with.

Can I position the widget to the top of the sidebar before editing it?

Many themes have a dynamic sidebar. It shows some standard content like a search box and calendar, etc. But if you place even one widget in the sidebar, all the standard content is removed. So all you have to do is add it back using the widgets – In your case, Categories, Links, Archives and Meta. Plus any new ones you want to try. It’s very easy. Dashboard>Design>Widgets

Thanks, will give it a try!
