• It seemed nice, made images pull “correctly” so I bought the pro version. It took a day or so before between cause and effect so it took me a while to track down why, but my traffic and revenue dropped significantly. My traffic is almost 95% dependent on Facebook, and this plugin was sending tiny little thumbnails instead of full size images, so as they were posted on facebook, they were much less noticeable. It cut my revenue to a third of what it was, until I finally disabled the plugin, and my revenue shot back up. I lost and estimated $400 to $800 in revenue while the plugin was activated. Use with extreme caution, if at all!

Any plugin configured improperly will have undesirable results. You really should have opened a ticket about your issue. I suspect your “full size images” were actually too small. The plugin, as configured by default, provides 800x800px images to Facebook. The ‘Image Dimensions’ option suggests:

“The image dimensions used in the Facebook / Open Graph and Pinterest Rich Pin meta tags (defaults is 800×800 cropped). Facebook recommends 1200×630 cropped, and 600×315 as a minimum. 1200×1200 cropped provides the greatest compatibility with all social websites (Facebook, Google+, etc.). Note that original images in the WordPress Media Library and/or NextGEN Gallery should be larger than your chosen image dimensions.”

The following FAQs might also have been useful, though obviously, opening a ticket would have been the quickest / easiest option.

FYI – The Setup Guide, suggested in the email you received with your purchase, also includes a section about image dimensions:

“Review the Image Dimensions option on the NGFB General settings page. If your original images are large enough, you should set the Open Graph Image Dimensions to 1200x1200px cropped or larger (see the option’s help popup for more information on Image Dimensions). Images that are at least 1200px wide will be displayed more prominently by Facebook (which uses the image provided by the Open Graph meta tags), so it’s worth taking the time to make sure that all your original / full-size featured images are at least 1200px in width and height, along with setting an Open Graph Image Dimension of 1200x1200px cropped.”
