When you activate the Photon module, Photon attempts to download all images in your posts, caches them, and serves them instead of your local images thanks to the domains you mentioned above.

However, if Photon cannot download your images in less than 10 seconds, or if you use an image hotlinking protection service that blocks Photon from downloading images, you may indeed experience issues with the service.

Could you check this, and let me know if it helps? If you don’t use such service and if your images can be downloaded in less than 10 seconds, could you post your site URL here so I can have a look?

If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:

    Thanks!

I’m seeing similar – I’m seeing photon get the photos from my site but then they’re not displaying.

If look at the page source and follow the image links to wp.com I get:

We cannot complete this request, remote data could not be fetched

@steve Could you follow the steps I described above to find out more about the issue?

    Thanks.

It looks like when a post is first visited the plugin has changed the urls to point to the wp servers and photon then fetches the images from the site and it takes several seconds (sometimes upto a minute or two) before those images appear on the wp servers. So for the first visitor or two to the page after you turn photon on the images are broken.

I was watching my server when I turned the photon option on and it didn’t seem to do anything until a post was viewed by someone – certainly I saw nothing to suggest that it was going through my posts and uploading all the images.

No hotlinking protection or any other plugins related to images.

Its so slow that I’ve turned it off….. It took 5 reloads of a single page to persuade photon to actually pull all the images from the page and then it took a couple more refreshes before they were actually viewable.

    Jeremy,
If I turn it on, older posts work good but images in newer post does not render.

This process should be immediate. If it doesn’t work on your site, could you give me a few examples of images where you experience the problem so I can take a look?

@naveed Ahmad Could you send me a link to a post where the images are broken?

The image appears to be displayed properly on my end:

I can also access the image directly:

If you still experience issues on your end, it might be worth trying to access the page from a different network, to make sure you’re not having problems accessing WordPress.com from your network.

Jeremy- Then what can be the root cause. Here is what I am getting.

Could you try to access the images from a different network, as I mentioned earlier? The problem could be caused by some connection issues from your home network.

Jeremy – I’ve turned it off for various reasons – not only did it fail to get images until someone viewed the post (by which time its too late as they end up with a page with broken images) but site response test sites suggested that it made no difference to my site load speed, or actually slowed things down.

When I’ve got some time I’ll set up a couple of test cases
