I set the permissions to 777 throughout to try to get the image thing working. It didn't, so I tried to change the permissions back again. Now the blog cant be accessed at all.
The root files and wp-content are 777.
Maybe you just have to be cleverer than I am
And wp-admin?

Ah! You see, you are cleverer than I am.
Seems that's not too difficult.
644 is the generally recommended permission setting to use for all the files in wp-includes and wp-admin.
Do not use a number higher than 755 for anything outside wp-content.
