I’ve been trying to run a manual scan but it keeps terminating almost instantly with an error:

“Scan terminated with error: We received an error response when trying to contact the Wordfence scanning servers. The HTTP status code was [0] and the curl error number was [35] and the error from CURL was: Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to noc1.wordfence.com:443.”

Is this something wrong at your end or could it be something I changed in my settings or interference with another plugin? I have no idea why this would start happening all of a sudden.

    Thanks!

Apologies for posting so soon — after checking a few of my other sites running Wordfence, I see that it is indeed a problem on your end:

“Scan terminated with error: WordFence API error: Wordfence is currently experiencing high load and our servers are giving scan priority to paid customers. Please try your scan again in a few seconds.”

However, one site displayed this message when I tried to view how a file had changed after yesterday’s last successful scan:

“We could not fetch a core WordPress file from the Wordfence API.”

That’s a pretty scary message! Perhaps you should consider something less alarming…

Same issue here, this has been ON going for about the last month.

Good to know, thanks. I won’t panic next time!

I’ve been getting the same message today (error response when trying to contact the Wordfence scanning servers), as well as having scheduled scans terminated because of overloaded servers.

Am I safe to assume the issue is on the Wordfence side? Thanks.

    Hi all,

We had an outage on the server that maintains the list of malicious URL’s as defined by the Google Safe Browsing list. The outage started slightly less than 4 hours ago. The server was brought back up 30 minutes ago. So this may have caused the symptoms you’re describing above.

Please do another scan and let me know if it’s working now.

Regarding the high load message. This has been ongoing for about a week and should be resolved shortly.

    Regards,

    Mark.

    Hi

Can you check and see if the issue has been resolved yet? There was a major upgrade this weekend.

    Thanks!

Hi there. Yes, it appears the issue (error response when trying to contact the Wordfence scanning servers) is resolved now. Though I still had a scan terminate because of overloaded servers (happened once since this posting). Thanks!

    Hi Mark & Tim,

I had the same thing happen. When I checked the scan page, it said the last one this morning had terminated in error, but when I ran a new scan, it completed successfully.

    Thanks! Great plugin 🙂

Glad everything is working! Thanks for the updates. 🙂

    Hi there,

I’m having the same issue for some time now. I wonder if it’s from my end or not. Anything I need to do?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Same issue here. Not working on 3 sites of mine.

    Cheers
