    I can set the gallery thumbnail size but is there a way to set the image size when an image is opened? If there isn’t, can I request this as a feature to be added?

    Also gallery images that link to custom URLs like standard images because the gallery has great formatting options.

    And also auto columns for the gallery, if the thumbnail size is set, WordPress should be able to tile the images nicely across big monitors.

    To an image size? No, it opens to media file (full), or attachment page. Why do you want it to open a specific size? You CAN do that with various lightbox plugins.

    Also gallery images that link to custom URLs like standard images because the gallery has great formatting options.

    You need a plugin for that.
