Image does not resize???

I’ve been using the wordpress app to post images to my blog a long time. In the past the image size would default to 500px x 500 px to fit nicely within the page. I’ve noticed recently that now the image does not resize and a full res image gets posted? Did something change and if so what? My images are now obscuring big chunks of my site and I’ve had to stop the blog in the mean time ??
