Greetings! Love your plugin. It’s really fantastic. Thank you!

I’m currently combining two prior websites into a new one. I’m manually putting everything together from scratch on the new site, so I’m not directly migrating anything over. For that reason, I’ve just installed a fresh version of GDE.

In my prior installs of GDE, I had the following option: “Block all download requests for file.” As you know, this appeared directly beneath “Hide ability to select/copy/paste text.”

I no longer have the “Block all download requests for file” option. It simply isn’t there. However, it still appears on my prior installs, on my other two sites, both of which are up-to-date.

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling GDE on me new site, but the option is still missing.

    Any ideas?

Thank you once again. I really appreciate it!

  • Hi Tom,

Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad GDE has been useful to you!

You must have a certain combination of settings in order for the “block downloads” option to be visible. This page in the GDE documentation explains the specifics. If you walk through this and still have an issue, please let me know.

Hey Kevin! Thanks for your reply! It’s fixed, but I see how my confusion arose. Let me explain, as I think there’s a little error in UI.

“Full Screen Behavior” appears beneath “Remove Toolbar.” When you click “Remove Toolbar,” “Full Screen Behavior” disappears (as do many options). This prevents you from selecting “Full Screen Behavior” when “Remove Toolbar” is selected. Does that make sense?

Also, it would be nice if all options are visible (e.g. Block Download), but greyed out when unavailable. There could be a little help box to mouse-over that could then provide instructions to unlock the specific feature. This would help users to better understand the full capabilities of GDE.

Again, thank you very much for your help, and thank you for making such a great plugin. I love it!

Incidentally, I used to have a problem with the Google bandwidth limit error. I haven’t spent much time with this part of my site in a while, but it seemed to be resolved when I last looked at it, and this resolution came after changing one of the settings in GDE.

It’s been a while, so I might be incorrect about this, but I think it was the “check for errors before loading viewer” setting under the advanced tab.

I should have mentioned this a long time ago, and I apologize for not raising this issue sooner. However, I noticed some other folks have asked questions about that error, and I think that setting may be what resolved it for me.

Thanks Tom, I agree it would be more intuitive to show all the options and disable some with descriptive text. Unfortunately that takes more time than I have to spend on this project at the moment (not to mention all of my translation editors), but I’ll definitely keep it in mind for the future. In the meantime I can address the other logical error you encountered with a smaller update.

Thanks for the tip on the bandwidth error. I encounter it fairly often even on sites that don’t use GDE but rather use Google Viewer directly, so I believe there is more to it than that, but that’s a valuable step to try to lessen the frequency.

    Kevin
