[Plugin: WP-PageNavi] How do you use this plugin? (9 posts)

How do I use this plugin? I've done everything in the installation guide but have yet to see anything of it. It shows up when I tick the option 'always show page navigation' but just says 'page 1 of 1'.

Can you make pages with this plugin? Can you choose where to end a page and start a new one? Do pages get created automatically? If they do get created automatically, how does it do this and how can i customize it?

I would appreciate any help on this as I have searched around and people don't seem too sure on what happens and if it's working.

Also, how do you configure pagenavi? I've looked and played around with the text fields but have yet to make sense of them. Do you fill them with text or numbers? Are there any further guides to explain how to go about changing the fields and what to? For example, I see this: "%PAGE_NUMBER%" for "Text For Current Page" and I haven't got a clue what to do with it.

PageNavi just replace your default next/previous navigation like you see in the default theme.

Demo: http://lesterchan.net/wordpress/ (right at the bottom)

    And it does nothing else.

Thanks for the reply, but for whatever reason it doesn't work.

How do you get that page navigation control at the bottom of the page on the link you posted? The most I can manage to do is to make a link to a second page in an article entry as opposed to a page with multiple entries like you have done.

I'd suggest you read carefully the Installation and Usage instructions that come with the plugin.
All the plugins by GamerZ have very detailed instructions. People just don't read it...

@scarpar Place it in footer.php or the end of index.php/single.php. Why do you need to make a link? WP default navigation will do it for you. Are your talking about "paging posts" or "pages within a post"?

@moshu Thanks for the compliments. You just made my day.

@ Moshu - Hey Moshu, thanks for the tip, I honestly didn't think about reading anything to do with the subject before inquiring about it. I guess that's what people usually do?

@ GamerZ - I've been following this guide: http://themeshaper.com/how-to-build-wp-pagenavi-into-your-wordpress-theme/ as it is the theme I am currently using for wordpress and I have used the code there in footer.php

I guess i'm trying to page posts or have like 2 posts per page. In my blog when I write a post it goes to the homepage, in that post I can put the <!--nextpage--> tag but it only makes the post have another page and not the homepage. I want to have my homepage to have pages so when I have 5 posts, for example, there will be 3 pages - 2 posts per page and the oldest on it's own on page 3.

Sorry if it sounded as if I was undermining you in any way. I appreciate your work and figured I'd seek help as I was having problems.

Yes, reading and learning the tool you have at your hands should be the very first thing!

You are "royally" mixing two, absolutely not related things. That's for starters.

Gamerz's plugin has nothing to do with the WP template tag <!--nextpage--> - and they serve completely different purposes.

So, I suggest, forget that template tag, and go back and read the plugin instructions until you understand them.

OK, thanks. Sorry for wasting your time. Maybe i should have mentioned I'm half retarded? See, I've read everything, yet I'm perplexed. It's odd, It's almost as if I'm trying to understand, yet I can't understand. I should probably seek help, a forum somewhere for PageNavi perhaps.

I'll be sure to post back here if I figure this thing out.

    Thanks for the help.

UPDATE: I tried the whole 'reading' thing again you talked about. What can I say? The thing works. Apparently if you read information you can learn it too, usually I just salivate, gaping mouthed. I thought that's what everybody else did too.

However, I came across a new problem. 2 PageNavi things appear, one above and one below my footer, maybe it's because of the code i used in my footer.php? Who knows, but maybe this reading thing could solve my current predicament too.

Thanks moshu, maybe life will get easier for me now.
