• Resolved KPCP

I recently tried to create a new page on our organisations website ( http://www.kimberworthpark.org.uk/ ) and the page shows up on our dashboard saying that it is published and is publicly visible, however it is not showing up on our actual website. I noticed on our dashboard that all the other pages were created by ‘admin’ I only have the log in details for ‘news admin’ and I believe that this is the reason that the page I created is not appearing on our website, Is this the reason its not appearing or is there another reason? (I have created entries in our latest news section with no difficulty but that appears to bee all I am able to do). Our website was originally set up by a third party outside of our organisation and he has only given our organisation the log in details for ‘news admin’ and we have been trying to contact him for over a month in order to get the ‘admin’ log in details but he is never getting back to us. Is there any way for us to recover these details so that we can create the new page? it is becoming very urgent for us to create the page as we need to publisise a new project that our organisation has started.

  • What is the URL of the new page?

Where exactly should the new page appear? Also, might your site use WP menus — http://www.kimberworthpark.org.uk/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?

As news editor you have been creating posts and assigning them categories, the menu structure has presumably been setup to display these various categories. But now you want a new PAGE, and its place in the menu structure has not been anticipated.

The bad news is that you most likely do not have the role of editing menus, so just check, from the Dashboard, do you get Appearance > Menus ? If you do then add you page in there. Otherwise you have to rely upon plans B or C.

Plan B: Try and contact your web developer, email him, snail mail him, look up his mother in the electoral roll, etc.

Plan C: Your website is hosted by Webfusion. Does your organisation have any record of them, have you been paying for hosting from them ? If so then they will be able to give you access to the web hosting, and thence break in to the WordPress administration. On the other hand you may have been buying hosting from your web developer as a reseller, this makes your relationship with Webfusion more difficult.
It is worth contacting Webfusion and seeing if and how they can help you.

Thank you both for the help, unfortunately Appearances > Menus does not appear on my Dashboard and when I try and follow the above link it tells me I do not have sufficient permissions to access the page.

The URL of the page is http://www.kimberworthpark.org.uk/?page_id=433 and it should appear as a subsection under ‘Our Work’

I can see http://www.kimberworthpark.org.uk/?page_id=433 so the page is published, but it sounds like your account doesn’t have the administrator level access needed to manage your site’s menus.

For that you’ll probably need to contact either your original developer or hosting provider as @rossmitchell suggested.

Another option is to try resetting the password of the admin account, but I would warn against that unless you’re very comfortable working with phpMyAdmin and/or MySQL.

    Following up on @jkovis suggestion.

KPCP do you have any other details about the website or hosting ? You have a WordPress login for an account that can create posts and pages, do you have logon details on the hosting management ? The database ? Or anything else ? Who was originally the person who engaged and communicated with the developer, go through their paperwork, go through their emails from the developer. Just maybe you can catch a break here.

The excellent suggestion by @jkovis of doing a password reset requires that you have access into the database, this would usually go with hosting management access.

Thanks again for your help both of you, unbelievably though the person who originally created our website has decided to e-mail me the details about 10 minuets ago so its resolved itself! 5 or 6 weeks he’s been ignoring my attempts to contact him and he decides to finally listen a couple of hours after I turn to the support forum!

    Thank again for your help.
