• Hi. I am starting a blog and I cannot decide on the theme. Maybe you could please help me. I need a SEO and Adsense friendly theme. Clean light style with 3 columns.

    I like this one:

Do you know any other similar Themes ?
    What would you recommend?

  • The idea that a theme can be SEO friendly is pure crap. Search engine algorithms are some of the most closely guarded secrets in the universe, and the overwhelming majority of people who claim to know how to manipulate them are frauds. SEO purveyors are the snake oil salesmen of the 21st century. All you need to do is follow a few common sense rules and concentrate on producing high quality original content that people want to read and they will find you.

I love this! It should get into the Hall of Fame of Quotes 🙂

Thanks Moshu. I’ve always prided myself on being something of a wordsmith.

I’ve been spending lunch hours at the bookstore around the corner, skimming through the half dozen or so books on the shelf dedicated to SEO. Organizing the pages so that content loads as early as possible is the one thing a poorly designed theme could screw up, in terms of SEO. Some do load the sidebar before loading the content. Some themes use the H1 – H6 headers indiscriminately based on their size rather than their hierarchy.

After fixing a few other basics, the only thing that really drives page rank is incoming links – links from other sites that point to your pages. There are various methods to try to manipulate that, but they have nothing to do with themes.

Eureka! Or something ike that. So content is the key to SEO. The title in the header makes no difference, the logo, the picture, nothing. Content, content, content and links, links, links.

    Is that right???

Titles absolutely make a difference. They should be chosen carefully to communicate the content of the article or the site in question. That being said, titles have absolutely nothing to do with themes.

Titles on WP pages are so important and you will need to make changes to header.php on wordpress theme. I believe you are looking for magazine like themes with support to adsense and SEO friendly.

Have a look on these [spam link moderated]. This should help.

I guess what I meant was that even if I title my blog within the wordpress control panel, if I put a banner logo in the header instead of the actual title, will it make a difference with SEO?

It doesn’t have to be an either or proposition. The information that you put into the blog title field is very important. For example, my domain name is chrisberryonthe.net, but in the blog title field I have it as Chris Berry On The Net. When you google my name, I usually appear somewhere between the 2nd and 4th positions on page 1. If you look at my site, I have a graphic banner that appears instead of the WP blog title. I have simply pushed the WP title out of sight using a big left indent in the style sheet and the banner appears as a background image.

Sweet. That’s exactly what I wanted to know.

    Thanks!

I invite whoever believe that SEO’s are ALL fraud, to try to rank a page for, for example, to the keyword “Real Estate Las Vegas”, or maybe
“Paris Hilton”. I could give you a thousand examples, probably many thousands…

Of course, there is no magic, and it’s not just about optimization of the page it self, but the content by it self isn’t enough, at least not for competitive terms, even though content is very important.

All you need to do is follow a few common sense rules and concentrate on producing high quality original content that people want to read and they will find you.

It is impossible to produce high quality original content on a subject like Paris Hilton.

I mostly post to threads of people that have problems with WP, however I found this thread most entertaining relief.
