• I noticed for the last weeks that I do not receive an email anymore when a comment is waiting for us to review. The setting in “discussion” is set to email us “whenever there is a comment” and “a comment is held for moderation”. I unchecked, saved, checked and saved again – still no email notifications. Any ideas?

    -try deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to narrow down and possibly fix the problem. If the problem goes away, activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the culprit.

    -if that dose not help, try switching to the default theme (“twenty fourteen”) for a moment by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes. The idea is to force WordPress to fall back to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific issue.

    – Also, double check your email address in two places in the Admin area and make sure it’s correct:

    Admin => Settings – General

    Admin => Settings – Users – your profile

    – I remember reading on these forums that some servers don’t allow mails to be sent out unless your admin email is something that ends with your domain. For example, if your domain is example.com, only something like somename@example.com and not any yahoo, hotmail addresses, etc. Probably the hosting providers do this to combat spam.

    Perhaps you want to contact your hosting provider.

    Tara’s suggestions were great. However, I would like to add that a good way to ensure you get emails from your WordPress install is to take over the WP Mail function yourself using your own SMTP mail credentials via a plugin such as:

    Thank you Tara, I tried the options you mentioned – no change. The email address is not exactly like the domain but it worked great before.

    Thank you Mike, I have my email account with go daddy and installing and setting up the WP mail did not work – error message. I guess because it is not a google (or one of the other accounts?).

    I also noticed that because of this issue I also don’t receive the back up files which is really bad

    as @ Mike Price indicated, you may need to setup SMTP

    Have discussed this issue with your hosting provider?

    I tried to set up the smtp but I kept getting an error messages that it does not work. it did not indicate what is wrong.
    So you mean the hosting provider of our website? It is blue host. But our email address is actually with go daddy.

    yes, try contacting them to find out what’s going on.

    Discuss with your host if that’s the problem
