You can use the same placeholder tags as you can in the email…so the private URL the the record edit page would be [record_link]

Hi xanu, and thanks for the info, though I’m relatively new at this and have no idea how placeholder tags work … In the “Setting Up the List Page and Detail Page” instructions for the Participant Database Plugin, Item 3. says to place the “[pdb_single]” shortcode where I want the record detail to go. Then it says that “this page won’t show anything unless it is visited using a link with the ID of the record to show in it.” and gives the example “/participants/detail?pid=27” … I don’t know the ID, the code, or where to place it so that when someone signs up, the link shows up in the email they’re sent … that takes them to where they fill in their info.

I’m sorry, I know the documentation can be difficult to understand.

When setting up the record detail page, you don’t have to worry about creating the link, the plugin does this for you, I only explained that because I wanted people to understand the shortcode won’t do anything unless it’s accessed with a proper link.

The link people are sent in the email is called a “private link” and it is for going back and editing the record, and that requires the “[pdb_record” shortcode. (This is meant to be on a different page from the “[pdb_single]” shortcode, which is just for showing a record)

The private link in the email is set up by default, so if you look at the “Signup Response Email” setting, you’ll see how that link is placed in the email. This will also show you how “placeholder tags” work. They are replaced by the values in the record when they are shown. They ones in the email work the same as the one used to show the “thank you” message after signing up.
