How to make WordPress not looke like a blog (5 posts)

    Sorry if this has been covered already, but search keywords such as frontpage misinterpret my intentions.

    I understand that Wordpress is mostly a blogging platform, but I'd like to use it as a backend for a very simple website where I add some news, some articles and have a few static sections.

    The installation was a breeze (exactly why I chose WP), but I don't know how to disable features such as post comments, blogroll etc

    I just want a minimal view, preferably static landing page, few other static ones such as contact etc.

    Can this be done via administrative interface, or should I hide elements in CSS perhaps?

    Is there a guide for this?

    1) Look for a not-too-bloggy theme or edit one to make it look so;
    2) The blogroll widget can be simply removed (or renamed);
    3) Comments can be turned off ("settings"->"discussion";
    3 b) You might want/need to take out the comments parts from your index.php, single.php, archive.php.

    There's a lengthy thread called "wordpress sites that don't look like blogs" (or something) with a whole lot of examples. I'm among those.

    And just to add to what G. said:
    studying the admin subpanels of your own tool is always beneficial. For the "static" thing try admin > Settings > Reading.

    Thanks!

    It looks that there are some advanced modifications on the web indeed.
