Gallery Backward compatibility?

I just upgraded from WordPress 2.5.1 to 2.6.2, mainly to get the new feature of being able to reorder images in the gallery since mine always uploaded randomly.

However, while the new galleries I upload work like a charm, my old galleries are now all messed up.

The problem is that I remember I had to kind of do some hacking to get my old galleries to work. I see that they all have orderby=”post_name ASC” in the gallery tag, but I tried to order them by filename (not sure if that was even the correct orderby to use)

In any case, the old galleries are now back to being ordered pretty much randomly – probably in the order they were uploaded. I thought that maybe I could add some stuff to the orderby code in media.php, but it didn’t seem to do anything (other than make the galleries on my new posts disappear).

It was my impression that having orderby in the [gallery] tag should override whatever is in the code, but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. Any advice on how to fix it?
