    Hi,

Old backups are deleted when a fresh backup successfully completes.

So, if your old backups aren’t being deleted, then fresh backups are not successfully completing.

Post a log file of a backup, and I can take a look at it. (Use pastebin.com, as it’ll be too long for the forum).

    Best wishes,
    David

    Hi David,

Thanks for reply, please take a look.

My latest check today after deleting past backup files. I have 10 backups but only set it to 3.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Thanks. It’s an ugly combination of a large backup, over-loaded cheap web hosting, and Google throwing a network error meaning that an upload had to re-start.

Thankfully, though, it’s something that I can see a simple solution to that I think should work. I’ve made a little tweak to UpdraftPlus to handle this better, and it will be in the next version which is about to be released. So, please upgrade when you see it, and try a fresh backup.

    Best wishes,
    David

Hi David, thanks for looking into this. I’ve updated to the latest version (1.9.19) but still running into the same trouble. Still too many backups retained..I’ve turned off google drive backup to see if it helps.

    Hi,

Please can you post the new log file, from the problematic backup?

Hi David, this is the latest log file, thanks.

    Hi,

That log seems to show a backup still in progress – i.e. not completed, but ongoing. The pruning of old backups doesn’t happen until a backup completes. You need to give it more time.

gotcha, however, at the time there were 13 backups and I had only set the backups to 3. There seems to be a cascading effect

    Hi,

It’s not cascading. The prune never happens until a backup completes (because you don’t want to prune good backups in favour of incomplete ones – safety first). So, that means none of the last 10 backups has completed.

Anyway – it’s 9 hours since you sent the log now, so if you send the new log, that should help…

    David
