How to split categories up with latest posts? | WordPress.org

I’m making a theme and I have two table columns in the index.php page. I have two categories in my blog: “News” and “Sport” and I want one half of my table columns to show the latest News topics and other half to show the latest Sport topics. What’s the code for that?

Takes category named Sports and shows the 5 most recent posts.
