Hi, im using a swedish wordpress-site and the options in the select box is therefore translated to swedish, how can I change that to english? there is no point using translate functionality when the user don’t understand what the select-box is saying in the first place.

    Check here for example http://www.thedailygood.se/2014/08/en/
Down at the bottom just before the comments.

I have tried using jquery to change the text after the page has loaded but the translate box is inserted after that. Is there an event I can listen for?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi addef, I’m sorry that I could not respond sooner. Working during the week has taken tons of my time. I cannot currently see the plugin – I’m guessing you have taken it down for now.

jQuery can’t work with the plugin because Google has programmed it to load after everything else in the website, including jQuery.

Also, I was not aware that the translator changed the drop-down to another language. From what I remember, all sites I have worked on always have English in the drop-down.

I would like to see this in action.

If this is the case, the only way I could help is offering the premium plugin because in our Premium version, we add our own HTML for the drop-down box. And it does load with page content, so you can target anything you wand using jQuery.

The plugin also has much better look than the classic Google version, along with more control with more options in the settings panel.

Here is where you can view the plugin:

I will setup for you if you would want help.

    Thanks! Rob

Hello, thanks for the answer, I turned the plugin on so that you can see it in action. You can find the dropdown just to the right of the text “KOMMENTERA (0)” and to the left of “Print” and “Share”.

    Thanks.

    Hi Adde,

Let me ask you: is your default browser language set to “Swedish” or “English” language? Google will change the language names to the native language of the browser, the website language will not matter to this effect.

So you may not need to worry, because your users are seeing the language in their native languages 🙂

You can test by changing your browser language to Swedish. Make sure to reset browser settings, close and re-open. Then you will see the drop-down has Swedish language for the language names.

Let me know if you experience something different.
