• I host my own WP installation, as well as a handful of others so my friends can have their own blogs. Whenever one of them wants a new plugin or theme, I have to get it and upload it via ftp to their installation folders.

Are there any plans (or is it even possible?) to have some sort of upload functionality within the WP admin panel so that the user can upload new themes or plugins themselves? It seems like that would be an awesome feature.

    Thanks!

  • Yes as far as I can tell 2.7 will have the function of installing plugins through the dashboard, 2.7 is due out in November. I’m pretty sure the themes will follow either in the next release after 2.7 or maybe even in 2.7.

Version 2.7 supports downloading and installing plugins directly from the plugins directory on WordPress.org.

Themes is still a future thing.
