The EWWW Image Optimizer has traditionally shown some data in a custom column in the list view of the Media Library. Now that the grid view is the default, is there any chance of being able to add some one-click actions or display custom metadata in the Attachment Meta section of the Attachment Details modal via a filter of some sort?

  • Hi nosilver4u, quite a few details regarding the media grid view are being ironed out, so know that this will likely change some as it works it’s way through the beta process.

One thing worth noting is that the “Screen Options” tab allows you to select what metadata you want to show/hide. While EWWW likely does not support this now, they may update the plugin to add their metadata to the grid as well.

I’m the developer of EWWW, so that’s why I was asking. I already have an option in the “Screen Options”, but that doesn’t seem to exist on the grid view, nor can I find any way to add any output to anything on the grid view currently, but hopefully that will change in the coming weeks.

    Thanks!

We’re actually taking more away from the grid view rather than add more. So the meta-data is getting lessened.

What one-click actions are you trying to add?

That was what I kind of thought from the recent updates I had been seeing, so I was thinking more of putting the metadata and one-click actions in the modal instead. EWWW has an Optimize/Re-Optimize function, and then a one-click conversion option (GIF to PNG, PNG to JPG, etc), and if an image has been converted previously, a ‘Restore Original’. You can see it in action on the second screenshot here: http://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/screenshots/

While the modal seems completely fine for the metadata, I’m not sure about the one-click actions. They are intended to be easy to find and use. Putting the one-clicks in the modal means the users have to click an image to even discover that they exist, and means they are no longer one-click actions too.

On the other hand, putting them anywhere in the grid view without some context might be less than useful also, so I’m a bit torn on that. Maybe I should just tell people to use list view for the one-clicks?

If you’re using media attachment fields to edit, then you should already be able to hook into the modal popup box, and that I think would be a better place to put it. The click action pops up the editor right now, so having it be in there would be logical I think.

    Derp.

display custom metadata in the Attachment Meta section of the Attachment Details modal via a filter of some sort?

Answer: Yes there are, says Helen.

Hmm, might need to check to see that I’m “doing things right”, as I currently just have an item in the attachment metadata array that is manually inserted (inherited that functionality from when I originally forked the plugin).

Are these the filters I should be looking at?

    It’s attachment_fields_to_edit, see #28991.

For actions we will mabye implement the media_row_actions into the modal, see #29056.
