Pre determined dates for recurring events

    Hi Everyone,

    I’ve had a search through the forums and can’t find any similar questions, basically I’m just trying to find out if something is possible or not.

    I’m setting up a website that has a mix of recurring events, some of which only run during school term/semester time.

    Ideally I would like to pre determine school term/semester dates in one place and then have a check box “term time” that means recurring events are only created during dates that fall within the school semester.

    My questions –

    A) Is this theoretically possible?
    B) How extensive would the development be to implement such a feature (even guesstimate would be great)?

    Hi Ian,

    Just to make sure I follow: You want the term time checkbox to restrict the creating of a recurring event to be between certain start and end dates but otherwise be a free choice?

    Thanks for you reply, I imagined the user flow to be:

    1) Define term time / semester dates in a separate tab – these would remain the same all year.

    2) When creating a recurring event that only runs weekly during term time the user could tick a “term time” checkbox and add a start date. The system would then create instances of that event for dates that fall within the pre defined term dates.

    If a date falls outside of term time, i.e. during holidays, no instance of that event would be created so there would be a gap until the next allowed date.

    If the event wasn’t related to school terms dates the user could still create a standard recurring event.

    I hope that explains sufficiently what I would like to achieve 🙂
