• This has happened to all the wordpress sites i have been hosting recently, and my customers (im a web developer) are getting really angry, and its all getting directed at me.
My personal site, i have personally poured almost £200 into to get it to the place i like it, and all the wordpress sites i am hosting have become corrupt or something.
I wiped one of my free domains and set up a brand new version of wordpress 3.9.1 straight from the website, set up a new database and what do you know, same problem, cant upload images, media folder is empty (even when stuff was there), cant install plugins or themes (the themes i use are expensive) and a few of my customers are getting to the point where i may loose them as customers so i really need this stupid problem what ever it is fixed as soon as possible.

My hosting service is 1and1.co.uk but I dont think it has anything to do with the hosts (just a guess).

    Any help is hugely appreciated.

Anyone who fixes this for me can have free graphics work done (2d or 3d).

  • When you set up the new instance of WordPress you mentioned above I am assuming you click on the Media in the WordPress admin and then Add New? What error did you receive when trying to upload media?

As Mark Wilkinson posting the exact error you get when try to upload media would help look into your problem further.

This is the exact error i get, i tried to upload just a basic sample image from Windows, I have tested the upload on my Mac as well just to make sure:

“Koala.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
    Missing a temporary folder.

I was wondering if you contacted our customer support at 1&1?

I am not the account holder on 1and1 and don’t have access to the dashboard or support, my dad actually owns the account, i just own most of the domains on it.

At some point i do need to get a new account but i’m pretty sure it isn’t a host problem because they had the problem before at work before I joined, and they are with heart internet, not 1and1.

I am really not sure what has happened but it is effecting completely separate projects on different domains and databases.

Are there any plugins/themes in common what could cause the issue. Or do you have any special configurations done in WordPress or wp-config.php ?

the latest one this occurred with doesnt even have any plugins, and the only thing in common with 2 of them is WooCommerce, but like i said, the new site I set up to test it doesn’t have anything on it at all, its literally a brand new installation off of WordPress.org.

The error including “Missing a temporary folder” suggested to me that it is a PHP ini problem in that there is no temp folder to upload to before WordPress moves the upload to the correct place. If this is case then I would say this is a hosting issue – so definitely get in touch with them.

    Hi kjgbriggs,

I am very sorry for any inconvenience in regard to your father’s account. I am happy to have our Admins look into this issue for you. Are you or your father able to email directly at brittany@1and1.com? I can look into this right away and provide a further update if needed.

Also, if you would like any assistance getting a new account with 1&1 I am happy to help you with that also.

Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you!
