SSL and SPDY support for Photon? | WordPress.org

Will Jetpack’s Photon module ever be able to deliver images via SPDY? Adding add_filter( 'jetpack_photon_reject_https', '__return_false' ); to my functions.php file allowed Photon to work on my HTTPS-only website, which had two effects:

1. Website speed in New York increased by >100 ms
2. Website speed in Texas decreased by <200 ms

Pingdom’s waterfall shows that for the NY server, Photon’s images are the last items to load: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/c63Zhd/https://www.persjrp.ca/

I figure enabling SPDY would speed up the connection quite a bit, as ix.wp.com domains don’t having SPDY enabled: http://spdycheck.org/#i1.wp.com

Could this possibly occur in the future? 🙂

Howdy,

Increasing SPDY support is on our roadmap, though the edge provider hosting the servers used for Photon isn’t ready for SPDY support yet. Overall, the benefits of the distributed CDN outweigh SPDY for the majority of people, but we do want everyone to have the benefits of both as soon as possible.

SPDY is great and looking forward to improving this (that’s one reason we’re one of the sites listed on http://spdycheck.org to check out — http://spdycheck.org/#wordpress.com )
