Can anyone recommend a 2 column theme that is easy to modify? I need the large column for the content to be on the left side, and the smaller column for the widgets to be on the right side.
And I need a theme that is easy to modify the header and color scheme...
Oh, and I am using WordPress version 2.7.1

I should think the default Kubrick theme is a great theme to start with.
Of course, theming can be a bit challenging, if you want to make a lot of code changes. However, Kubrick has lots of built-in administrative tools to help you achieve a personal look and feel without lots of code changes.
If you want to dig deeper, later, there is tons of documentation about modifying the theme.
I have modified the Kubrick theme for my blogs.
