2 column cms site layout (2 posts)

I am trying to create a 2-column CMS layout, that needs to be easy for the client to use and modify the second column text.

I've tried adding widgets and plugins (dynamic widgets, core sidebars, category posts widget, magazine columns, page sidebars) but none of them are working for me – either don't work or i can get the custom text in the second column/side bar, but then it isn't formatted properly.. Need to be able to use HTML and add images, links, etc. I've tried creating a post for the different sidebar areas and calling to them with a widget but the text comes across unformatted..

the original (non-WP) site is http://openandoperatearestaurant.com/ I'm continually changing the WP test site so not putting the link for that up, but this at least shows the original layout that I'm trying to replicate..

I only know html & css and can hack some other things with decent tutorials.. End result: needing something that will allow for 2-column layout with custom text in each, different on every site page.

any help is greatly appreciated :)

little more, went with the standard twentyten layout and modified it to reflect the client's previous design.

everything is working well so far, but still need 2 column layout for the homepage.. all the other pages I can get away with a different layout and am using dynamic widgets to make it more customized overall too. .
