create 3 col layout from scratch

    Hi

    I am quite new to creating themes with wordpress.

    I have to create a page with 3 columns in it that has no widgets etc. IE it is 3 columns from a page only.

    I know there are plugins out there I can use but really I want to learn how to do it myself. (I have done a lot of joomla templating)

    I was thinking of going down the shortcodes direction…

    WOuld this be a good place to start or is there a better way?
