[Plugin: WP Super Cache] Big Problem with WP-Ban (3 posts)

I'd like to report my unlucky experience.

My WordPress running with WP-Super-Cache also runs with a plugin called WP-Ban, banning some anonymous www proxy servers' IPs that ever duplicated my site's text by bots or visitors. When those IPs visit my site, a "You Are Banned" page displays instead of my homepage. But it's unlucky that wp-super-cache sometimes chose that page for the new cache, as the previous cache was just expired and removed at that moment. So, after that, lots of normal visitors came to my site and saw "You Are Banned" and even Google has indexed my ban page to be the cache of my homepage, causing SERP drop and significant traffic loss. This case happened in a very low chance but it did have happened.

Either WP-Super-Cache or WP-Ban should be updated to avoid that happening again.

I would suggest not using both together at all.

If you have banned an IP, I presume by your description above it's not done in your .htaccess, it's done by WordPress. If a page is super cached the banned IP will see the original content. The only way of really banning them is through "Deny" rules in the .htaccess file.

Thanks for your suggestion, donncha. I'll update my .htaccess file.
