• somehow, I lost an entire page I had built yesterday. it was saved, reviewed, looked fine. today, i tried adding an album with the Photo Gallery plug in, but it somehow deleted my ENTIRE PAGE…worked all day on it!!
I need to get revision history to restore what I did yesterday.
There is no option on the Screen Options for revisions. Am I missing it somewhere else? Is there something to be checked that will enable revisions?

    Thanks

  • If you deleted an entire page, then it’s probably in your trash. You can learn more about that at http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ and you should be able to restore it!

good thought, but there is nothing in trash.
It did not delete the page per se…it just wiped all of the content from it! the page exists on the list, but when you open it to edit, it’s completely blank. Links to it from the rest of the site work, but you get a blank page (with the Page name on top)

That is weird. Do you see revision history on other pages? Also, have you tried disabling the Photo Gallery plugin to see if it mysteriously reappears?

I do not see revision history on any page.
I have about 20 galleries spread throughout the site. My concern would be if I disable the plugin, I will lose all of it everywhere. The galleries feature works fine. It seems its the albums feature that did it. I even created a dummy page to check…same thing happened.

OK, I think I figured out why the album feature was not working, but it didn’t bring back the page. I tried on another test page and got it to work fine.
But…the content on the main page is still lost!
If I could revive the revisions option, I should be able to get it all back…odd that its not there.

Oh don’t worry about losing the content if you disable the plugin. Disabling it doesn’t remove it from the database, deleting it could though. Though backups are always great to have if you’re not doing that already (I recommend https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-backup-to-dropbox/, but there are so many).

So, because it’s a custom post type, it may not have revision history (and sorry for not asking this earlier, but…), when you say PAGE, are you referring to the Gallery post type, or an actual WordPress Page? If the latter, then there’s something definitely wonky with your admin and I would disable plugins (after backing up just so you feel better). If the former, I think your plugin doesn’t have this feature (not all do).

It looks like you posted on the plugin’s forum, which is great, I’m sure they’ll be able to give you a better answer, but I hope at least some of this info was helpful anyway. πŸ™‚

now it gets weirder… I looked at all my pages…SOME have revisions as an option, some do not. There does not seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. Some static, simple pages do, some do not.

    (@naroescape)

to answer your question, these are WP pages

Wow, yeah. I’d say backup and disable. Definite weirdness is afoot. πŸ™

OK, so I diabled ALL my plug-ins…still no revisions option on some of my pages.

And I know there should be revisions…I am not a programmer, this is for my hobby racing team. I’ve dabbled with WP here and there, am definitely a newbie, so each time I add something to the Page, I save, update and “View Page”. I also look at it directly from the website itself, making sure it looks OK and is formatted correctly. So…there should be tons of revisions visible.

Again, some pages show it, some do not… I even just did a re-install of WP…no change.

Have you by any chance looked in your PUBLISH box to see if Revisions appear there rather than as a separate box (http://www.greenbee-web.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/revisions.png)? I have to say, since it’s in some pages but not others, it really seems like there’s some weirdness with a plugin. Perhaps your theme. Or perhaps you thought you saved that page but you didn’t (though I know that’s the worst case, thinking you did something when you didn’t :)).

You said a re-install of WP didn’t help, but does that mean you migrated the content, or you tried to create new pages and still no revisions appear after making a few edit updates?

At this point, I don’t think this is a WP issue, but perhaps someone wiser than I can weigh in. I hope the plugin folks can provide some guidance too.

Here’s what I get (screen shot)

    http://narosagroup.com/test-page/

Sorry I can’t tell if you made an update. Can you make a change update that page and then see what happens?

    (@naroescape)

well…I typed it a couple words, saved it, and now I see revisions…

That is VERY odd. so it did not track any updates for the past 2-3 days? Like I said, I’m new to this, so after every picture, gallery, heading, paragraph, etc I saved/updated it, then went to look at it. I even had my wife look at it multiple times, changed things in the layout and wording, etc. I even commented to her that if it counted page ‘hits’, I probably have 1000 today alone!

    The same with other pages.

    go here: http://naroescapemotorsports.com/site/papa-smurf/

After every one of those galleries and paragraphs, I did an update and looked at it online. but…it also does not show any revisions or the option to see them.

funny…as long as I’ve been messing with all this today, I probably could have rebuilt most of it…

Well I’m glad revisions are working for you now, but I’m sorry you’ve spent so much time dealing with this issue. I’d suggest going forward setting up a regular backup of your site which should hopefully help in future. Weird things do happen, no matter how diligent we try to be!
