• Blog has disappeared online. I can only see my blog by accessing the FTP files and clicking on “view”. I can see all the pages this way except the “dashboard” and “View Site”.

This occured after I tried following the directions for “Giving WordPress its Own Directory While Leaving Your Blog in the Root Directory.” I tried following this step-by-step process, making a copy the original “index.php file and noting my steps, just in case it didn’t work so I could reverse the process. It didn’t work because I never could find the .htaccess files, perhaps because I am using Yahoo Small Business FTP. So, then I reversed my steps, re-pasting the original text back into the index php file & moving this index.php file back into the “blog” subdirectory. Also, I then changed the “General Options” via my FTP files, changing my “Blog address” back to the default; so once again it reads the same as the “WordPress address.” So, everything should be as it was before I messed with it.

However, now my blog is no longer accessible online, only by viewing the files directly via my FTP files.

I do not understand all the terms but can follow simple directions.

Please help. : ) Thanks!!!! Mellilah

    I’m using WordPress 2.3.3

  • Did you change the actual blog URL back to where it should be?

If you can’t do this with the admin screen, try doing it in the database directly.

Be careful though, as it involves messing with the database directly.

Also, you should consider updating! Lots of security fixes from 2.3.3 to the current 2.6.1… But, I digress… 🙂

Thanks. Yes I did that. I changed the blog address and the WordPress addresses back to the default “www.xxxx.com/blog”

Could it have something to do with the permalinks or the htaccess files?

    Thanks again, mellilah

I’m going to see if the blog address was changed on database using this link you gave me. It seems easy enough to follow but where do I find phpMyAdmin? Thanks.

It will be in the control panel for your hosting.

Yeah, thisisedie is right – phpMyAdmin is a MySQL management tool that most likely came with your hosting package. As your provider where you can access it for your account and server…
