• Hi,

I realise after 3 years I could probably have given one of my blogs a better title (and therefore domain).

But I have quite a lot of comments that I want to keep, and I know many people have bookmarked the site, so I would like all the pages on MyOldDomain.com to go to MyNewDomain.com, and have all the old posts and pages redirect…

    From:
    MyOldDomain.com/blog/AmazingPost
    to:
    MyNewDomain.com/blog/AmazingPost

What is the best way to do this please?

If it’s very complicated, how much should I expect to pay someone to do it?

    thanks a lot

  • Are you going to be changing servers as well or just the domain name?

The best place for you to look would be to read this article http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

If you follow the guide you shouldn’t have any issues changing names.

    Hi Sandy,

    Thanks

Well I can use the same reseller hosting account (might have a slightly different IP. (is it the same server if one is 111.111.077 and another is 111.111.080?)

But I will need the old domain where it is, so that it can redirect.

I looked at the link you gave me and I’m not good with text instructions for technical things (Dyslexic – I need videos), but from what I can see it looks really complicated.

Anyone know how much it would cost me to get someone to do it, and where to find someone reliable?

    thanks

Another option you might want to try is using a plugin that will backup your site and allow you to migrate it.

One I’ve used before is http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/ it did work flawlessly for me, but they do have disclaimers on the page.

They also have some videos on their site to take you through.

    Hi Sandy,

Thanks, I am going through the videos now.

As Sandy mentioned, Duplicator is a very good product.

There are also a few others, one premium one that I can recommend with high regards is wp migrate db pro, and backup buddy.

In terms of migration wp migrate db pro is a tad better. For backups and migration, you can’t go wrong with backup buddy.

    Hi Evan,

    Thanks for those.

Please can you confirm that wp migrate db pro, and backup buddy would let me do redirects on all pages and posts; ie:

    From:

      MyOldDomain.com/blog/AmazingPost1

    to:

      MyNewDomain.com/blog/AmazingPost1

    thanks a lot
